urban decay
brief : The urban landscape has many dark secrets, one of those is the dereliction and dilapidation of a previously inhabited urban existence.
As cities have grown and economies developed, some areas have suffered. The result is nature fighting back to reclaim land that was once taken from it.
.
Urban decay was the feature that initially got me interested in photographing the urban landscape. I have recently returned to this area, which unlike my other work, does not show a visible human aspect; instead it communicates evidence of a previous human existence.
.
This black and white photography works well on an aesthetic level as it can be readily compared to landscape photography, but also works conceptually by focusing on man made dereliction and dilapidation - the ‘ruins’ of a previously inhabited urban existence.
