zero : black and white photography book

.
.
is a photographic exploration of urban america in high quality hardback book form.

The book is strictly limited to two-hundred copies and is available for purchase from this website. The work is split into three sections: people, place & politics. Each takes a different approach to American urban existence and makes a deeper commentary through social documentary and urban landscape photography in the same vein as the seminal street photographers of the 1960s - Robert Frank, Garry Winogrand, Diane Arbus and Lee Friedlander.

People, explores the isolation and emotional detachment that exists in this society through a traditional monochrome street photography approach.

The second section, Place, is concerned with the architectural immensity in the American urban landscape and the dichotomy between prosperity and degradation.

The final section, and peak of the book is entitled Politics. The ‘inherent sadness’ that develops in the preceding shots turns into something more desperate through a representation of the confused and frantic behaviour of American citizens at the third anniversary of the WTC attacks at ground zero.

The work makes a distinct political and social commentary through a traditional photographic approach.

This 96 page edition has been printed utilising the highest quality lithograph printing process on fine art silk paper and professionally bound in a beautiful cialux bookcloth. It measures 235x175mm.

Don't miss this opportunity to own a rare and beautifully produced book at a very reasonable price.

"Wakefield is a young and passionate artist ... In the past he immersed himself in the aesthetics of the street, and photographed people and urban surroundings; what is different about his most recent work is the move away from the purely aesthetic to a more political and social commentary. And his view of America is that of an outsider, which means that he sees different things, and has a greater need to explore them, than someone born and raised in that country. The messages from this latest work are clear, people are isolated and detached in their urban settings, and the world has changed seismically since 9/11."

James Nash
